In 1929, David and Beatrice moved from NYC to open the first ABOFF’S White Paint Store in
Huntington, NY. Its purpose was to to serve Long Island’s local trade and Gold Coast.
In those days, paint only came in white, and color had to be mixed into it according to the
customer's requirements. ABOFFs often delivered paint to the Gold Coast estates by horse
drawn carriage.
In the mid 1940s, David Aboff's oldest son Melvin entered the business and soon opened their
second store in nearby Huntington Station. By 1957, David’s other son Herbert entered into
business with him. Two years later, they opened their third paint store 10 miles away in East
Northport. In 1964 the fourth store opened in Centereach. A chain of paint stores named the
Orange Front Paint stores were acquired in the early 1990s.
Throughout the years, ABOFF’S has taken the opportunity to grow its business and store
locations. The most recent acquisition was the addition of 7 Janovic Paint stores. Today you
can find 26 ABOFF paint stores serving Long Island.
ABOFF’s is still able to boast that they are a family owned and operated Long Island business
being led by the third generation of ABOFF’s including Michael, Rod and Donna Aboff. Donna
Aboff joined in 1970, followed by Michael in 1976, and finally Rod in 1984.
The fourth generation proudly carries on the tradition of a family business with Matthew Aboff,
who joined the team in 2008.
